Join me for a small-group workshop where I will walk you through the jigsaw printmaking method: a truly great way for making multi-color prints. We will cover design and planning, transfer considerations depending on the colors, color mixing and mediums, inking, registration devices, and printing (both hand burnishing or using my lever press). I will demonstrate each step and you’ll come out with your carved block and a small edition. All materials are included, but feel free to bring your tools if you prefer so. Before you book, please read the following
Other important details:
This wokrshop might be best for those that have some experience carving blocks. You do not need to be an expert but some experience might be helpful. I will still cover the basics of tool safety and mark making but less than in my intro courses. If you have never done any relief printmaking, consider my DEEP DIVE INTRODUCTION TO LINOCUT PRINTMAKING or a one-on-one bespoke workshop first.
I provide all materials, so you do not have to bring anything! If you want, you can bring a sketched idea or pictures that we can then work with to make it printmaking ready (we will be working on a maximum of 9×11 block but we will make decisions about design during our session) . But you can also wait and draw your block with me during the workshop. I will share examples of different artists, tips and techniques to come up with a beautiful image to print, and I will also have some practice designs if you want to skip the drawing part altogether.
FOOD & DRINKS: There will be coffee, tea, and some snacks available. PLEASE LET ME KNOW ABOUT ANY ALLERGIES I SHOULD KNOW OF. I do not provide lunch but you are welcome to bring your own (we have a nice outdoor sitting area that you are welcome to use). There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby and I will provide a list once you book.
ACCOMMODATIONS AND QUESTIONS: If you have any questions or concerns about the materials, accommodations, or the workshop in general, feel free to contact me at irenka@thewonderstruckprintmaker.com. I am happy to answer.
WHAT WILL YOU LEAVE WITH? I will provide the tools and materials to work with during the workshop. You will take home: your own carved linocut block, your practice block, your own prints*, a handout with recommended materials and other tips, and a new set of skills. *We might use driers to speed up the drying process but if you are not able to take your prints home wet, you are welcome to pick them up at an arranged time later on
WHERE? Berkeley CA, 15 minutes walking from a BART station and with plenty of free parking around. I will send you the details upon booking.
CANCELLATION POLICY: If you need to cancel, please let me know via email at irenka@thewonderstruckprintmaker.comat least 72 hours before the workshop and I will refund the cost minus the Paypal fee I was charged for the transactions. Late cancellations or no-shows won’t receive refunds, as I will be losing the ability to earn my keep that day.
